This book was definitely a surprise! This was my first book by Todd Lowe, but I'm hooked. This story is such a wonderful story of compassion and love. It's not just a story of romantic love, but of love for family. We all struggle with things in our past, but this shows how to move beyond that. It made me view life with new eyes. I can't say enough about how refreshing and well-written it was. Truly a remarkable book!!!!Product details

The character development in this story is described in great detail, but it is so detailed that it causes the novel to be a little fragmented. It was difficult to remain interested in the activity of the story.
The Light Still Shines had me mesmerized from the beginning. In 4 hours I had read it from start to finish and went thru almost every human emotion. The setting and the characters are relatable and you are left wanting these people in your life. I hope there is a sequel!!
Great read, reminiscence of the likes of Pat Conroy, Faulkner, and other great Southern authors, who capture the spirit of growing up in the South. The Light Still Shines gathers a unique cast of sinners and saints. The main character, Luke, a conflicted, often tormented soul and his story will resonant with you long after the story is done. A must read.
I'm always particularly interested in reading works written by North Carolina authors, especially those that use our beautiful state as a back drop. Todd Lowe did not disappoint. He paints a beautiful picture of the mountains of NC and interesting people that inhabit our hills.
The Light Still Shines is wonderful story of spirit filled characters. Characters, that we can relate to and appreciate. I enjoyed getting to know each one. I felt as though I walked with them through tragedy and sadness. Then celebrated their happiness and joy.
The story completely sucked me in and can't wait to read his next book.
Im a big fan of reading new authors work, and a big fan of a good story. So I jumped at the opportunity to read The Light Still Shines when it was given to me. I was not disappointed. Plus it's set in my home state. I was immediately sucked in and sympathized with Luke, the stories main character, who is on a journey back into the past, and as he travels, Lowe the author introduces many complex intricate characters into the fold each with their own unique story and prospective on life in the Appalachian. A place where life is just not always that easy or fun. I can't say that this story was entirely predictable there were a few things I just didn't see coming, but I have to say that I loved the richness of the story the whole way through , it was difficult to have to put it down. I just wanted to know what happened next. I highly recommend this debut novel. Lowe is on his way to being a masterful storyteller and I for one can't wait for another.
The Light Still Shines is an AMAZING book. I felt Luke's pain when it came to having to go back to his past to make things better for the future. I love how this book leaves you wanting more. I wasn't able to put it down and I can't wait for what Todd writes next!!! I will strongly recommend this book and any others he writes to everyone I know ;)
Every character in this book, I felt as though I knew them personally. I laughed with them, worried about them, and my heart hurt for them. Todd Lowe is a gifted writer and his book takes you through every range of emotion there is to feel. I anxiously await the next book.
